Workshop at Vilnius College of Technology and Design, Lithuania
2015, March 25

This workshop was planned quite a long time ago, but it was very hard to arrange the perfect date, because of the exam session in the college, so finally the time came and one friday morning four artists - Jurgita Jakubauskatė, Bronė Surdokienė, Jolita Parieštienė and Beata Malinovska held a different handcrafts workshop at Vilnius College of Technology and Design.

A workshop that lasted for around half a day atracted not only students and lecturers, but also participants, that came from Vilnius Third age university.

During the workshop artists were teaching different techniques. Bronė was giving traditional lithuanian band weaving instructions, though not so many participants have tried it, because teaching this technique requires attention just to one student for at least half an hour. Another artist Beata Malinovska gave introduction on embroidering with strips, that gives a unique possibility to make embroideries, taking us back in time to kings palace.

Jurgita Jakubauskaitė sat down with participants, that were interested how to make hairpins and brooches using useless cuttings.

Though participants tried to try at least for a few minutes each technique, most of them were atracted by Jolita and her training about soutache. With a lack of time they still managed to make earrings and other jewellry using this amazing strip sewing technique.
